Each month we discuss a book agreed upon at the previous meeting. The April selection is "The Last Ballad," by North Carolina native Wiley Cash. This work of historical fiction tells the story of the 1929 textile workers' strike in Gastonia, North Carolina in part through the eyes of real-life participant Ida May Wiggins. The novel deals with labor rights, social injustice and the intersection of race and class.
Who should attend: Anyone who wants to read and discuss books of interest with fellow left-leaning readers.
