What Democrats have Achieved

Democratic Leadership:
Progress We’ve Delivered

Over the past 25 years, Democratic leadership has helped move our country forward through responsible governance, smart investments, and a focus on people over politics. Many of the systems, protections, and opportunities Americans rely on today exist because Democrats chose to act — even when it was hard.

Expanding Access
to Health Care

Democrats led the passage of the AFFORDABLE CARE ACT, which expanded health insurance to millions of Americans, protected people with pre-existing conditions, allowed young adults to stay on their parents’ plans, and reduced the nation’s uninsured rate to historic lows.

More recently, Democratic leadership strengthened health care access through the AMERICAN RESCUE PLAN, which expanded Affordable Care Act subsidies, lowered premiums, and helped families and communities recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The INFLATION REDUCTION ACT built on this progress by allowing Medicare to negotiate lower prescription drug prices for the first time, capping insulin costs for seniors, and placing limits on out-of-pocket drug expenses — delivering real savings for older Americans.

Investing in Communities
and Infrastructure

After decades of underinvestment, Democrats helped pass the BIPARTISAN INFRASTRUCTURE LAW, making the largest federal investment in infrastructure in generations. This law is repairing roads and bridges, replacing lead water pipes, expanding broadband access, improving public transit, and modernizing ports and airports.

These investments are strengthening local economies, creating good-paying jobs, and connecting rural and urban communities.

Growing the Economy and Supporting Workers

Democratic administrations have consistently focused on building an economy that works for everyone, not just the wealthy. Following the COVID-19 crisis, Democratic leadership helped drive a historic economic recovery — supporting small businesses, restoring jobs, and stabilizing families during an unprecedented moment.

The CHIPS AND SCIENCE ACT is rebuilding domestic manufacturing, bringing semiconductor production back to the United States, strengthening supply chains, and creating high-skilled jobs while reducing dependence on foreign competitors.

Democrats have also worked to strengthen workers’ rights, support unions, and protect wages, benefits, and workplace safety.

Taking Action on Climate and Clean Energy

Democrats passed the largest climate and clean-energy investment in U.S. history through the INFLATION REDUCTION ACT, accelerating the transition to renewable energy, lowering household energy costs, and creating clean-energy jobs.

These investments are helping reduce pollution, protect public health, and ensure the United States leads — rather than lags — in the global clean-energy economy.

Advancing Civil Rights and Public Safety

Democrats have continued to defend civil rights and personal freedoms, including passing the RESPECT FOR MARRIAGE ACT, which ensures federal recognition of same-sex and interracial marriages.

After years of inaction, Democrats helped pass the BIPARTISAN SAFER COMMUNITY ACT, the most significant federal gun-safety legislation in decades, expanding background checks and investing in mental health and violence-prevention programs.

Democratic leadership also delivered the PACT ACT, the largest expansion of veterans’ health care in generations, ensuring veterans exposed to toxic substances receive the care they earned.

Democrats across the country are working hard to build a better America. We’re fighting to build an economy that works for everyone by lowering costs for working families and investing in the middle class. Democrats are dedicated to ensuring a stronger and more just future for every American.

Leadership That Reflects Our Values

At their best, Democrats govern with the belief that government should be a force for good — protecting freedoms, expanding opportunity, and investing in the future. The progress of the past 25 years reflects that commitment, and it’s why Democrats continue working to build a fairer, healthier, and more inclusive America.
