Black Mountain Democrats Read - Book Club Meeting

  • Peri Social House 406 West State Street Black Mountain, NC, 28711 United States (map)

Each month we discuss a book the group has agreed upon at the previous meeting. In January, we will discuss "How to Stand Up to a Dictator: The Fight for Our Future" by Maria Ressa.

She has been working as a journalist in Asia for 36 years and is the subject of a 2020 documentary entitled "A Thousand Cuts," which details her experience working against the Duterte government. In 2021, she became the first Filipino to win the Noble Peace Prize. Her 2022 book is the story of how democracy dies by a thousand cuts and the need for us to wake up and hold the line before it is too late.

Who should attend: Anyone who wants to read and discuss books of interest with fellow left-leaning readers. Even if you haven't read the book, come anyway for a lively and wide-ranging discussion. We meet the third Friday of each month.
