Community Panel on Affordability

  • Pisgah Brewing 2948 U.S. 70 Black Mountain, North Carolina, 28711 United States (map)

How did life become so expensive? Are you struggling over rising costs? Affordability is the top issue on voters’ minds in NC and across the country. Since the war in Iran began a few short months ago, the price of gasoline has doubled. Exorbitant increases in grocery prices, housing, prescription drugs, medical insurance, and household goods are negatively impacting the quality of life in our community. Duke Energy has increased rates, and more are on the horizon. In Buncombe County, ongoing Helene recovery efforts further compound these challenges.

Join NC State Senator, Julie Mayfield, NC State Representatives Eric Ager and Lindsey Prather, and Buncombe County Habitat for Humanity C.E.O. Andy Barnett, for a panel discussion on how global, national, and state policies are affecting food, energy, healthcare, and housing costs here at home. Learn from these local leaders as they outline why life is so unaffordable right now and bring forth potential solutions.

Who should attend: Riceville, Swannanoa, and Black Mountain residents who are concerned about the affordability of their everyday lives. Friends across the county are welcome too.
