Speaker: Randy Bernard
Randy Bernard's a freelance writer and editor who works with MoveOn.org in various capacities: as a volunteer Regional Organizer, a member of the Strategy Support Corps, the Team Leader of the Host Prep Team, and a paid member of the Proofer Corps. He's been active with MoveOn since mid-2006, when he helped organize the Asheville MoveOn Council, one of nearly 200 similar groups nationwide that worked on MoveOn's national issues in their local communities. The Asheville group, with Randy as its Council Coordinator, was the only Council in the Southeast to earn a "Level 5" rating, given only to MoveOn's strongest and most effective Councils.
In the mid-'70s, Randy helped to organize the Abalone Alliance, a coalition of some 25 groups using nonviolent civil disobedience to oppose the construction of the Diablo Canyon nuclear reactors, the last such facilities built in the U.S. He worked out of the Alliance's San Francisco office and helped to coordinate the Alliance's media team, crafting media strategy and communications and serving as the Alliance's spokesperson at major public events.
Before beginning his work as a freelancer, Randy was editor of Aspen Magazine in Aspen, Colorado.
